WEATHER FORECAST 08/21/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

LAST UPDATE: 8:03 AM PDT AUG 21, 2007

HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE OUR WEATHER PATTERN GIVING US SIMILAR TEMPERATURES TODAY AS YESTERDAY. THERE WILL BE CONTINUED SUNNY WARM DAYS AND CLEAR NIGHTS FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW DAYS. MID LEVEL WINDS HAVE SHIFTED TO A MORE WESTERLY FLOW, KEEPING THE MAJORITY OF THE SMOKE FROM THE ZACA FIRE TO OUR SOUTH. THIS SMOKE WILL RESIDE IN LAYERS BETWEEN 8,000 AND 15,000 FEET.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 55 - 63. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 15 MPH BECOMING LIGHT IN THE EVENING.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 56 - 62. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND LOW 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 52 - 59. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND LOW 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 53 - 60. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

THE HIGH WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH DEVELOPS OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THIS MAY INCREASE CLOUD COVER OVER THE SIERRA WITH SLIGHT COOLING ON THURSDAY. OTHERWISE DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. A FEATURE THAT BEARS WATCHING IS SOME MODELS ARE NOW SHOWING AN EASTERLY WAVE CONTAINING MOISTURE FROM HURRICANE DEAN MAKING ITS WAY WEST LATE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. THIS MAY SPREAD LIGHT PRECIPITATION OVER PARTS OF OUR AREA. WE WILL CERTAINLY HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE ON THIS.
