WEATHER FORECAST 08/15/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 7:36 AM PDT AUG 15, 2007

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT MONSOON MOISTURE WILL STAY OVER ARIZONA THROUGH THURSDAY WHILE THE EASTERN SIERRA WILL REMAIN ON THE WESTERN EDGE OF THAT MOISTURE. WITH THE WARM AIR MASS OVER OUR AREA, ISOLATED, SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE A POSSIBILITY TODAY AND TOMORROW OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY. WE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE HAZE AND SMOKE IN SOME AREAS OF THE HIGH COUNTRY AND OWENS VALLEY FROM THE CALIFORNIA FIRES LOCATED TO OUR WEST.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY IN THE MORNING BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY IN THE AFTERNOON. HAZE AND SMOKE VISIBLE PARTICULARLY IN THE MORNING HOURS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 AND LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 61 - 69. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 AND LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 60 - 68. LIGHT WIND 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE EVENING. SOME AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE IN THE MORNING. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND UPPER 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TOMORROW FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND UPPER 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 44 - 54. SOUTH WIND 15 - 25 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

THE CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REDUCES BY FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND, AS A PACIFIC TROUGH MOVING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL TURN THE FLOW MORE SOUTHWESTERLY. SOME COOLING WILL HAPPEN ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AS THAT TROUGH MOVES THROUGH CALIFORNIA. THEN, THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK WILL SEE LITTLE POSSIBILITY OF PRECIPITATION, LIMITED CLOUD COVER AND TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL.
