WEATHER FORECAST 08/13/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 8:03 AM PDT AUG 13, 2007

THE FOUR CORNERS RIDGE STARTS TO STRENGTHEN TODAY WITH A MINOR WARMING TREND OVER THE UPPER ELEVATIONS. ADDITIONALLY SOME HIGH LEVEL MOISTURE IS MOVING UP FROM THE SOUTH AND WILL BRING SOME CUMULUS OVER THE CREST IN THE AFTERNOON ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THE MOISTURE IS DEEP ENOUGH TO TRIGGER ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY, BUT IT DOES BEAR WATCHING. OTHERWISE BREEZY ZEPHYR WINDS IN THE AFTERNOON FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY WITH DAYTIME TEMPS RUNNING IN THE LOW 80S FOR MAMMOTH AND THE UPPER 90S FOR THE OWENS VALLEY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: GENERALLY CLEAR SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 50S. SOUTH WIND 10 -15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE MID 50S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTH 10 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND LOW 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. WEST WIND 10 - 15 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND LOW 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 43 - 53. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

A SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT RE-ESTABLISHES ITSELF ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WHICH WILL PUSH ANY REMNANT MOISTURE OUT OF THE AREA AND BRING ON DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. LITTLE DAY TO DAY TEMPERATURE CHANGE IS EXPECTED WITH HIGHS RUNNING AT OR JUST A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
