WEATHER FORECAST 08/10/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 7:28 AM PDT AUG 10, 2007

A DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND OVER OUR AREA AND THIS WILL FORESTALL ANY THUNDERSTORM THREATS OVER THE EASTERN SIERRA FOR THE TIME BEING. A SLOW WARMING TREND WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH SUNDAY WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND BREEZY AFTERNOONS. SMOKE ALOFT FROM THE ZACA FIRE LOCATED IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, WILL CONTINUE TO REDUCE THE VISIBILITY IN PARTS OF THE OWENS VALLEY FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: GENERALLY CLEAR SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. SOUTH WIND 10 -15 MPH GUSTING TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

SATURDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTH 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND MID 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 51. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 GUSTING TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

SATURDAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND MID 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 47 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 05 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

BY TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK, MODELS ARE SHOWING AN APPROACH OF AN EASTERLY WAVE AND MONSOONAL SURGE INTO ARIZONA AND SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA. WE HAVE HAD AN UNIMPRESSIVE MONSOON SEASON TO DATE AND I AM NOT QUITE READY TO BUY INTO THE T-STORM THREAT AS YET. STILL WE COULD HAVE SOME CLOUDS OVER THE CREST ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. FOR NOW, THE WEEKEND LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO OUR CURRENT WEATHER CONDITIONS WITH MOSTLY SUNNY DAYS, COOL NIGHTS AND BREEZY AFTERNOONS. DEFINITELY A "GO DO IT" WEEKEND.
