WEATHER FORECAST 08/09/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 7:56 AM PDT AUG 09, 2007

A DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW CONTINUES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS OVER OUR AREA AND THIS WILL ELIMINATE ANY NORMAL EARLY AUGUST THUNDERSTORM THREAT OVER THE EASTERN SIERRA. A SLOW WARMING TREND WILL TAKE PLACE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW DAYS WITH CLEAR SKIES AND BREEZY AFTERNOONS.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WIND 10 -15 MPH GUSTING TO 20 IN THE AFTERNOON.

FRIDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTH 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND MID 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 38 - 51. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 GUSTING TO 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

FRIDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND MID 80S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 41 - 52. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 IN THE AFTERNOON.

BY EARLY NEXT WEEK, THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF A MORE SOUTHERLY FLOW WITH A DECENT MOISTURE SURGE AND THIS COULD BRING ON THE THREAT OF MOUNTAIN THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. AGAIN, WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE ABOUT THIS. UNTIL THEN, BREEZY CONDITIONS IN THE AFTERNOON WILL CONTINUE OVER THE WEEKEND ALONG WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND SLIGHT WARMING TREND.
