WEATHER FORECAST 08/08/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 8:01 AM PDT AUG 08, 2007

THE GENERAL UPPER LEVEL PATTERN OVER NORTH AMERICA HAS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN USA AND AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND CALIFORNIA/NEVADA. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE US A SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT AND LITTLE CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WE WILL HAVE MOSTLY FAIR SKIES, AFTERNOON BREEZES AND TEMPERATURES AT OR ABOUT NORMAL.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 -15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

THURSDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTHEAST 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 75 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 85 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 40 - 50. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 IN THE AFTERNOON.

THURSDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 77 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 87 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 42 - 52. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

THE FLOW WILL START TO BECOME A LITTLE MORE SOUTHERLY ON FRIDAY, BUT NOTHING TO WARRANT ANY T-STORM ACTIVITY IN OUR AREA AS YET. THEN HIGH PRESSURE BEGINS TO SHIFT EAST OVER THE WEEKEND AND THIS COULD BE MORE FAVORABLE FOR SOME MONSOON MOISTURE TO ENTER THE AREA BY NEXT TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE ON THIS. OTHERWISE, MOSTLY FAIR SKIES, TEMPERATURES ABOUT NORMAL AND A SLIGHT INCREASE IN CLOUD COVER OVER THE CREST WILL PREVAIL THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
