WEATHER FORECAST 08/07/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

LAST UPDATE: 8:11 AM PDT AUG 07, 2007

A DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW WILL PREVAIL ACROSS OUR AREA FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WE WILL HAVE MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES WITH TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL. SMOKE FROM THE "ZACA" FIRE LOCATED NORTH OF SANTA BARBARA WILL BE CARRIED OUR WAY FROM TIME TO TIME, MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTHWEST WIND 8 - 12 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

WEDNESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTH 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 70 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 80 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 40 - 50. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 GUSTING TO 24 MPH IN THE EVENING.

WEDNESDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 73 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 83 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 44 - 54. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 13 GUSTING TO 21 MPH DURING THE DAY, THEN 3 - 8 MPH IN THE EVENING.

THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH THAT HAS ASSISTED WITH COOLING THINGS DOWN A BIT, HAS STARTED TO WEAKEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO THROUGH THURSDAY. ANOTHER TROUGH OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL MAKE ITS WAY DOWN TO THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST BY FRIDAY. SO BASICALLY, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL CONTINUE TO BE SITUATED BETWEEN A TROUGH TO OUR NORTHWEST AND HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR EAST. THIS WILL RESULT IN FAIR SKIES, A DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT, BREEZY CONDITIONS AND KEEP OUR TEMPERATURES ABOUT NORMAL THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
