WEATHER FORECAST 08/02/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 8:29 AM PDT AUG 02, 2007

LESS THAN EXPECTED MONSOONAL MOISTURE IS DRIFTING EAST, BUT THERE IS STILL A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTION IN THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY TODAY, AND A FEW CELLS COULD STILL PASS OVER GIVING SOME AREAS THE POSSIBILITY OF ISOLATED RAIN SHOWERS. BY FRIDAY, A DRIER AIRMASS WILL PENETRATE THE AREA REDUCING THE POSSIBILITY OF T-STORMS AND PRECIPITATION.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SCATTERED T-STORMS AND SHOWERS PRIMARILY OVER THE MOUNTAINS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. WESTERLY WINDS 5 - 10 MPH.

FRIDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS. ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN STILL POSSIBLE. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 90 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 47 - 57. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE EVENING.

FRIDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORM IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 78 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 88 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 43 - 53. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

INCREASING SOUTHWEST FLOW AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING TROUGH UP IN THE PAC NW WILL PROVIDE A DRYING TREND INTO THE WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO BE JUST A FEW DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. AS THIS TROUGH TO OUR NORTHWEST PUSHES UP AGAINST HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR SOUTHEAST, AFTERNOON WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE WEEKEND.
