WEATHER FORECAST 07/31/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 7:55 AM PDT JUL 31, 2007

TODAY'S FORECAST IS PRETTY MUCH A REPEAT OF YESTERDAYS, WITH HOT VALLEY TEMPERATURES AND THE THREAT OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE MOUNTAINS, PARTICULARLY FROM BISHOP AND MAMMOTH NORTH INTO MINERAL COUNTY. THERE IS A BETTER SHOT OF T-STORM ACTION THROUGH OUT THE HIGH COUNTRY ON WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR IN THE MORNING BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY LATER IN THE DAY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 103 AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

WEDNESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR IN THE MORNING BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON/EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY CLEAR IN THE MORNING BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 92 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 47 - 57. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

WEDNESDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 90 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

AN UPPER TROUGH PUSHES INTO THE PAC NW STARTING ON FRIDAY GIVING ALL AREAS A DRY, BUT WELCOME COOL DOWN THROUGH THE WEEKEND. I DON'T EXPECT MUCH TEMPERATURE REDUCTION FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, BUT THE UPPER 90S ARE CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE LOW 100S. THERE WILL ALSO BE BREEZY CONDITIONS STARTING ON FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
