WEATHER FORECAST 07/10/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

AN UPPER LEVEL LOW OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST COMBINED WITH A STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST WILL BRING A SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW WITH MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR TO OUR AREA TODAY AND TOMORROW. ISOLATED, HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS AND LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE, PARTICULARLY FROM MAMMOTH NORTH; BUT COULD OCCUR ANYWHERE ALONG THE CREST. I EXPECT SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY WITH HUMIDITY LEVELS RISING IN BOTH AREAS. THERE IS A FIRE WEATHER WATCH CONTINUING FOR THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY WITH INCREASING CHANCE OF SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE MOUNTAINS MID DAY THROUGH THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S/LOWER 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON THROUGH THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTH WIND 10 -15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY LATER IN THE DAY. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY THROUGH OUT THE DAY AND EVENING WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF HEAVY RAIN, HAIL AND LIGHTNING. GUSTY WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH CELL DEVELOPMENT VERY LIKELY. HIGH TEMPERATURE RANGE 83 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 93 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 48 - 58. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY THROUGH OUT THE DAY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURE RANGE 79 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 89 FOR THOSE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 43 - 53. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

CONTINUING CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH RE-CIRCULATED MOIST AIR IN THE HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. BUT T-STORM ACTIVITY TAPERING OFF IN THE OWENS VALLEY BY THURSDAY, AS THE UPPER LOW LIFTS NORTH AND THE RIDGE OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AREA BUILDS IN TO CLEAR THINGS OUT. TEMPERATURES WARMING AGAIN, PARTICULARLY IN THE OWENS VALLEY, THRU THE WEEKEND.
