New Giant Sequoia purchase in southern Sierra

The impressive groves of giant Sequoias at Alder Creek Ranch (between Sequoia National Park and Camp Nelson) have been compared to Yosemite's Mariposa Grove.
The ranch is being bought by Save the Redwoods League, and may be added to Sequoia National Monument.

Nice to know that it will be preserved. If it had gone to another private ownership who knows what might have happened.

Not much different than now. Old Growth Sequoia has low timber value. The wood is too brittle for structural use.
The State Forests have been growing GS for several years using different prescriptions and different site conditions, to see if it can be used as a commercial wood species. The old growth wood is too brittle, but younger growth is stronger, rot resistant, and has other useful properties. Plus it grows fast with a large volume per acre (tolerates higher densities).

Land could've been developed & turned into private homes with restricted access, that'd be the main worry. Selling summer cabins with sequoias in the backyard could be pretty lucrative.
