Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Forecast for Mammoth & the Owens Valley
Provided by Dennis Mattinson
Eastern Sierra Weather Forecaster
Broadcasting for the Sierra Wave 92.5 / 96.5 FM

A very large ridge of high pressure continues to dominate our area with high temperatures still running above normal. That ridge starts to flatten a bit today in response to a strong shortwave pushing into the Central California coast. This will bring unstable conditions with some mid level moisture to the High Country and we should see isolated thunderstorm activity along the Crest later today and tomorrow. Hot conditions, dry lightning and strong downburst winds may accompany these thunderstorms creating an extremely high fire danger. Otherwise, dry weather and slightly cooler temperatures for today by some 2-3 degrees.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly cloudy skies. Daytime high temperatures around 105 and evening lows in the lower 60s. South wind 10 -15 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly cloudy. Daytime high temperatures around 104 and evening lows in the upper 50s. Southwest wind 10 - 15 in the afternoon.

Today for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms. High temperature range around 90 for the Main Lodge and 99 for the Mono Valleys. Low temperature range 52 - 62. Southwest wind 10 - 15 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Mostly sunny then becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Chance of isolated thunderstorms. High temperature range around 85 for the Main Lodge and 95 for the Mono Valleys. Low temperature range 48 - 58. Northwest wind 10 - 15 mph.

The ridge of high pressure will persist with the hot, dry pattern continuing through next week for the Owens Valley. The High Country will see an ever increasing chance of thunderstorm activity continuing into next week, as moisture builds and mixes with the warmer air in the upper elevations.
