Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Forecast for Mammoth & the Owens Valley

Provided by Dennis Mattinson

Local Eastern Sierra Weather Forecaster

for the Sierra Wave 92.5 / 96.5 FM

Broadcast Times 12:30 pm & 5:30 pm M - F

Upper level high will remain centered over Central California and Nevada for the next few days. This will give the valley's continued warm, dry conditions. A weak disturbance will try to undercut the high tonight and Thursday causing slight cooling at the upper elevations and destabilizing the atmosphere enough to trigger some isolated thunderstorm activity over the entire Sierra Crest north of Kern County . Yesterday some afternoon T-Storms did break out, dropping 0.26 inches of rain on Tioga Pass, giving lighting and hail to Mono Pass and thunder along the Crest in the Mount Whitney area and north into the Palisades. As for temperatures, there will be only slight changes for today and Thursday.

Tonight for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly cloudy skies with some high level cirrus and mountain cumulus. Evening lows in the mid 50s. South wind 10 mph.

Tomorrow for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Sunny skies once again then becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Daytime temps in the lower 90s and evening lows in the lower 50s. South wind 10 mph.

Tonight for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Partly cloudy in the afternoon and evening. Chance of isolated thunderstorms. Low temperature range upper 30s for the Main Lodge and upper 40s for the Mono Valleys. West wind 10 mph in the evening.

Tomorrow for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Clear skies becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon. There will be a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. High temperature range mid 70s for the Main Lodge and mid 80s for the Mono Valleys. Low temp range 38 - 48. West wind 10 - 15 mph in the evening.

On Friday and Saturday another weak disturbance will pass over the forecast area will little change in the valley weather patterns. However, there will be enough moisture to increase mid/high level clouds over the Crest and create possible isolated thunderstorm activity. Otherwise, temps will be on a slow rise with dry conditions prevailing through Sunday.
