Favorite Sierra Documentaries?

Hi all,

I really enjoy watching the Planet Earth-type programs that are so easily accessible now on Netflix/Amazon and was wondering if there were Sierra specific documentaries (or episodes of programs related to the Sierra) that you have enjoyed.

The one that comes to mind is Valley Uprising, which I thought was well done.

I'm sure we have all done deep dives on personal "documentaries" on YouTube related to specific trails and/or areas as well.

Cheers!

JK

There was that ghastly TV series from the 90s with Robert Conrad -- High Mountain Rangers.
Fortunately, it died a quick death.

The 1974 TV show Sierra was just as bad.

I thought that I was the only one old enough to remember that one.

Sierra didn't even last a full season. It was yanked off the air after three months.

Sierra was actually a spin off from Emergency!, which was a spinoff from Dragnet. The quality of the writing kept going downhill as the franchise continued.

There's a documentary on the Sierra I really like. It's called Message from the Mountains. It's a pretty popular video.

I love the message. There's nothing like being outside in the Sierra Nevada...

Some of my favorites are made by users right here! Hamsterfish (aka Chris) has a really cool one on the JMT he posted a while back. There was another one I really liked, I'll have to find it. I also watched one on Rangers of Yosemite Valley. It's a bit dated now but still shows the difference between the Valley and the wilderness in terms of ranger duties and how they've changed with the 5+ million visitors to the valley every year.

It's much more than the Sierra, but Dixie (Homemade Wanderlust) just released a video editing together her weekly videos from her 2017 thru-hike of the PCT. She has a great outlook on life, took some wonderful videos of the landscape and of nature on a much smaller scale. She actually found time to capture the microscapes of the bugs in the flowers including one of a spider catching a mosquito while completing a thru-hike.
Of the members on here, Apeman has a pretty good video on YouTube of his JMT thru-hike with his daughter.
Valley Uprising was a cool look at rock climbers that was well done in my opinion.

This might not apply directly, but the National Parks series by Ken Burns has some excellent use of the Sierras. My favorite is the Ansel Adams and Kings Canyon formation. Highly recommended.

Don't recall seeing the '74 Sierra TV show.
Probably too busy working full time and finishing my senior year of undergrad engineering.

Dawn Wall was just released on Netflix.
These guys (MyownFrontier and John Amorosano) put out awesome backpacking videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi1fXVyHS8U&t=1218s
Also "Mile Mile and a Half" is a good JMT Documentary
