A Good Use For That Old Gear You Never Use Anymore

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

A Good Use For That Old Gear You Never Use Anymore

Post by Lumbergh21 »

The Sierra Club – Mother Lode Chapter (Sacramento area), Inspiring Connections Outdoors program aims to encourage teen agers to get outdoors. They are starting a backpacking program this year and are looking for donations of gear in good condition including: packs, sleeping bags, mats, tents and stoves. I know most of us on here had someone in our lives who instilled in us a love for the outdoors. For me it was my grandfather. Unfortunately, there are many children who don't have the opportunity to get out and enjoy true wilderness. The Sierra Club is trying to help with that. I have some gear that I know I almost certainly will never use. Stuff that I hang onto "just in case". Well, I think that I just found a good use for it. The gear doesn't need to be ultra-light. In fact, ultra-durable is probably more important.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
