I saw a Topix sticker on Hwy 14 tonight!

On the way home from Mammoth tonight, I looked out the window and saw an oval white sticker on the back window of a dark green Xterra. I saw "Got Mountains?" as we got closer and passed. I looked to see who it was, and I think it was Shawn!

Hey Snow Nymph,

That was me. Funny thing, before you clipped by I saw two other vehicles identical to yours. But as you approached, it became obvious it was you with your license plate. Darned if I didn't notice you pulled off the highway until I passed you by. Anyway, great to see you, even if it was for a fleeting moment.

BTW, I was out suffering the "post holing from hell" trip above south lake all day. I've never pulled myself out of the snow so many time before in my life - sheesh.

Shawn, where above South Lake were you hiking? Are you planning to post pics and/or a trip report?

Hi Trekker -

I went up to Long Lake and back. Naturally I had to elaborate a bit. Here's a TR.

Thank you for the story on your adventure. Glad it all wasn't waisted. Yes, about the time you think you have it made Mother Nature rears her head and slams you down to earth. Ah, what memories are made of.

Nice report, and pix! :) We'll be getting out to the Sierra soon. I wonder how my splitboard would do out there. :unibrow: Did Kurt make it to Goode?

Next time I'll pull over when I see a Topix sticker! If I were driving, I would have pulled over right away! I had a fish taco in my hands so I couldn't even open the window to wave til we were down the hwy aways. I thought you were still behind us when we pulled into Bradys, but saw a bunch of other vehicles go by before I saw the Xterra. Oh well, next time!

Yum, fish taco.

I don't know if Kurt made it to Goode or not. I suspect he skied around the base and returned. He seemed very savvy about the area and mountains in general. I asked him if he gets online and looks at HST, SP, etc., but apparently not.

Now that I'm back at work (stinking desk job) I can feel the results of my crash and burn attempt at skiing. :D
