Forecast for Mammoth & the Owens Valley

We can expect areas of high clouds today ahead of an approaching upper level trough due to reach our area by this afternoon/evening. This should be a significant precipitation event for the High Country with as much as 1 to 2 feet of snow for elevations above 10,000 feet. A winter storm warning will be in effect for these areas from early this evening till early tomorrow morning. The snow level will be lowering to the valley floor in Mono County by tomorrow morning. Winds will increase ahead of the storm and a High Wind Watch will be in effect from Monday afternoon through at least Tuesday morning for the Owens Valley with blowing dust a real possibility. That upper level trough will move out of the area and into the Great Basin Tuesday night.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly cloudy turning mostly cloudy in the evening. There will be a 50% chance of rain showers in the afternoon/evening. Very windy conditions later in the day with South wind 20 - 30 gusting to 50+ mph. Daytime temperatures in the upper 60s and evening lows in the upper 30s.

Today for Mammoth and the Mono Valleys: Mostly cloudy and windy with a chance of rain and snow showers in the afternoon. Snow level 8,500 feet during the day lowering to the valley floor during the evening. Southwest wind 20 - 30 in the afternoon gusting to 45 in town and 90 - 100 mph over the Crest. Daytime temperature range 48 to 58 and lows 20 to 30.

Tomorrow for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Mostly cloudy and windy with a chance of rain and snow showers in the morning. There will be a 40% chance of precipitation. Snow level 3,500 feet in the morning. Peak daytime temperatures will be in the lower 50s and evening lows in the upper 20s. Northwest wind 20 -30 gusting to 45 mph.

Tomorrow for Mammoth and the Mono Valleys: Cloudy and windy with scattered showers. High temperature range 32 - 43 and lows 10 to 20. Northwest wind 15 - 25 gusting to 50 over the Crest.

An Eastern Pacific ridge will move in behind the departing trough and give us mostly fair and dry conditions Wednesday through the weekend. We can expect a warming trend though this period as well.
