Thanksgiving

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Thanksgiving

Post by balzaccom »

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which is certainly the holiday with the best food in our country. A great day for everyone except, perhaps, turkeys.

Along with everyone else, we'll be chowing down on a fabulous feast. And worrying just a bit about how we are going to lose all those extra calories.

Let's see. How many calories are we going to be eating? And how many calories do we use up on a day of backpacking?

OK...so the more we eat tomorrow, the more days we'll have to go backpacking next summer.

That seems like a win/win.

Hope your Thanksgiving is a good one.

Would like to give my thanks to every one of our members who make HST such great place! Thank you for writing up those wonderful TR's, posting the beautiful pictures, contributing those great stories, listening and giving thoughtful advice without being over critical, and coming together as a community when there is an emergency, these are some of the qualities that gives HST that unique flavor and differentiates from all the other forums, making it the "Best" outdoor forum around!

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

A couple of things I am thankful for: The Sierra Nevada, it splendor and beauty and the many hours I have spent there in pursuit of the elusive trout-fish. Another thing is this community of fine folks who know and thing or two about both. Have a great holiday! Cheers.
