Forecast for Mammoth & the Owens Valley

An upper ridge of high pressure will weaken today in response to a fairly strong upper low out of the Gulf of Alaska. Temperatures will remain near normal today then begin to drop as the low passes through our area. A winter storm watch will be in effect for the High Country from Wednesday evening through Friday morning. Snow fall estimates range from a few inches at 3,500 feet to 36 inches in the High Country. Very windy conditions will prevail in the Owens Valley and Mammoth through out the period.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Sunny during the day then mostly cloudy in the evening with high temperatures in the lower 60s and lows in the mid 30s. Northwest wind 15 - 20 gusting to 35 mph in the afternoon.

Today for Mammoth: Cloudy and windy with a south wind 20 - 30 gusting to 50 mph in town and up to 100 mph over the Crest. There is a chance of snow in the evening with levels down to 6,500 feet. Temperature range 45 - 55 and 17 - 28.

Tomorrow for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a 50 % chance of rain showers late morning then a chance of snow showers in the late evening. Snow level will be around 3,500 feet. High temperatures will be in the lower 50s and nighttime temperatures in the upper 20s.

Tomorrow for Mammoth: Windy conditions with snow. Snow level down to 3,500 feet in the evening. South wind 20 - 30 gusting to 60 in town and 100 mph over the Crest. Temperature range 36 - 46 and evening lows 10 - 18.

Precipitation will begin to taper off Friday as a shortwave ridge builds in over California. I expect dry conditions over the weekend then a slight chance of showers will move through our area on Monday.
