More Rockslides Expected In The Sierra

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

More Rockslides Expected In The Sierra

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

Quote from the article: "Logically, if temperatures keep ramping up, that would explain why some of these cracks are opening up even more,” Collins said. “Does that equate to more rockfalls? That would be speculation at this point.”

Headline: Scientists expect more rockfalls.

This mismatch between the facts in the article and the headline writer exemplifies what is wrong with journalism today.

Good heads up information, Maverick. Or more precisely, duck down information.

In Europe, on some classic climbing routes where rockfall is an objective risk, conditions are becoming noticeably worse. In the Himalaya region, unusually big and nasty avalanches seem to be more common.

Even from a conservative, scientific perspective, "anecdotal evidence" can indicate factual conditions.

Remember that old commercial: "It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature".
