They went out really late with little gear, tried to climb a knob XC, aborted, came down a different route, got rope burns using a rope incorrectly, got stranded on a ledge and had to spend the night in light clothing.

They were lucky a cell phone got a signal and a chopper brought rescue climbers to them. This is why you need to know what you're doing and be appropriately prepared.

Hopefully they all come away learning something from this experience, some people are not as fortunate to get a second chance.

The girl said that before this she wanted to be on Naked and Afraid. These kind of TV shows give people idealistic and inaccurate perceptions of wilderness. She now seems uninterested in anymore outdoor adventure. Too many kids today have very little awareness of how demanding the backcountry can be and what's required to traverse the wilderness in harmony with Mother Nature rather than fighting a battle with her.

Thoughts: (1) CHP/SAR is bad arse! I was surprised to NOT see a cranium cover on the first rappel?! (2) Staging area was Echo Lake TH parking lot? (3) Looked like the ledges on your way up Horstail Falls, no?
