Forecast for: December 20, 2006

California is currently under a weak upper level ridge, giving the Owens Valley mostly sunny skies, light winds and cool temps. A fast moving storm will slide down into our area Thursday, giving us the chance of rain in the Valley and snow in the upper elevations.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Mostly sunny skies with high temps in the lower 50s and evening temps in the mid teens. Northwest wind 10 – 15 mph.

Today for Mammoth: Partly cloudy with afternoon temps in the upper 30s and evening temps in the single digits. West winds 10 – 15 gusting to 50 mph over the Crest after midnight.

Tomorrow for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Mostly sunny in the morning turning partly cloudy in the afternoon. High temps will be in the lower 50s and evening temps in the upper teens. 20% chance of rain in the evening with northwest winds 15 – 20 gusting to 35mph.

Tomorrow for Mammoth: Cloudy and cold with scattered snow showers. Snow level will be 8,000 feet during the day, lowering to 5,500 feet in the evening. High temps will be in the low 30s and lows in the mid teens. Southwest winds 15 – 20 gusting to 40 in the High Country and 80 mph over the Crest.

Right now, the models are showing an upper ridge building in on Friday afternoon and amplifying through the weekend. This should give us a good chance for dry weather on Christmas Day and favorable travel conditions on our highways. Stay tuned for updates.
