Owens Valley / Mammoth Weather Forecast

Forecast Specialist for the Sierra Wave
& Fort Independence EPA Met Station
The upper level high pressure ridge is moving east today as an eastern pacific low pressure system crosses into northern CA. There will be a chance of precipt Friday into Friday night. Ridging will move in on Saturday then another trough is set to pass through on Sunday, giving us a chance of rain in the Valley and snow in the High Country.
Thursday for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Sunny skies with high temps in the low 60s and low temps in the upper 20s. Light winds NW to 10 mph.
Thursday for Mammoth: Clear skies with high temps in the mid 50s and lows in the mid teens. Gusty conditions over the Crest in the PM to 50 mph.
Friday for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly cloudy with cooler temperatures. Highs will be in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 20s. Gusty conditions in the PM to 30 mph.
Friday for Mammoth: Partly cloudy with a chance of rain/snow in the PM. The snow level will be at 7,000 feet in the PM. Windy conditions NW 15 – 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. It will be very windy over the Crest with gusts to 80 mph.
Saturday night will bring an upper level trough with plenty of moisture into our area. Cold air accompanying this system will drop snow levels down to 4,000 feet on the west side of the Sierra’s. There is a good chance of snowfall on the eastern side through Sunday AM down to 6,500 feet. The trough moves out on Sunday night leaving a lingering chance of rain/snow confined to the upper elevations.
