A view from ‘Across the Range’



The majesty of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range is difficult to capture. The expansive range covers 400 miles from the California to Nevada. one man took it upon himself to follow the range from Visalia to Mt. Whitney and the end product has been shown each month for the last 10 years to visitors at the Yosemite National Park and now the Sequoia Genealogical Society will be showing the film along the producer Lee Terkelsen to both public and members alike.
On Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Sequoia Genealogical Society will be meeting in the Olympic Room in the Tulare City Library, located at 475 North M St. in Tulare. The film’s Narrator and producer, Lee Terkelsen, will be taking the audience on a journey “Across the Range”, a film about Tulare County’s spectacular and majestic Sierra mountains. The public is welcome to attend, “This should be quite and interesting experience”, said Jeanette Mitchell Publicity Chairwomen of the Sequoia Genealogical Socity.
The film was recorded in the VHS and 8mm formats – long before “high def” was a common term. Yet it continues to be a popular program at the LeConte Memorial Lodge in Yosemite National Park where hundreds of visitors have viewed it with live narration by the producer during the last 10 years. The film takes viewers on an incredible journey across the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range from the San Joaquin Valley in the west to Mt. Whitney in the east, first by car into Sequoia National Park and then by a backpacking trek along the High Sierra Trail to Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the United States outside of Alaska.
The Sequoia Genealogical Society, Inc. is the major support organization for the Inez Hyde Collection in the Genealogical Room of the Tulare City Library. This library has one of the...
