Don't fret, Mark. Even the CBD lawyers are commenting. Gonna cost more than 51 mill to tell Delawhatever Northish they only run the concessions and do not own them.

I suspect the NPS is frantically reviewing trademarking in all the NPs and filing the appropriate forms. Delaware North totally caught them sleeping at the reins.

I've long hated DNC management, but now . . . (no smilie exists to properly encapsulate my feelings)
The concession contract is up for renewal in 2015. Here's hoping this causes the NPS to go with anyone but DNC. Does anyone know if there is a comment procedure on rewarding the new concession contract?

Historian Says Delaware North Company Has No Claim To Yosemite National Park Place Names

While the Delaware North Company maintains that it can claim place names in Yosemite National Park as part of its intellectual property with a $51 million value, a prominent historian of the national parks disagrees and hopes the National Park Service will challenge the company's belief.
The issue arose earlier this year when the National Park Service prepared a prospectus for companies interested in running concessions in Yosemite. During the process of putting the prospectus together, Delaware North notified the Park Service that it held ownership to such names as The Ahwahnee Hotel, the Wawona Hotel, Curry Village, Badger Pass, and other places in the park. Furthermore, the company said that if it lost the bidding for the 15-year contract that begins in 2016, the winning bidder would have to pay it $51 million for the right to those names.
While the Park Service has not officially recognized Delaware North's claim, it has in the prospectus left open the door for a renaming of all the places to which the claim extends if another company wins the contract.
In claiming the place names as their own, Delaware North officials point out that when they won the concessions business at Yosemite in 1993, the Park Service required the company "to buy the stock of the previous concessioner, Yosemite Park & Curry Co. (the Curry Company) at a price that was established in advance by the NPS," DNC's Yosemite spokeswoman, Lisa Cesaro, said in an email to the Traveler. "With this stock purchase, because DNC Yosemite then owned the entirety of the Curry Company, it also became the owner of all the assets of the Curry Company, both tangible and intangible, and responsible for all of the liabilities of the Curry Company, which the Curry Company had accumulated since its inception in 1899.

I can only hope that someone will do a better job of publicizing this to the nation at large...so that the entire country can weigh in. It would be nice to see DNC take the public heat for this. I imagine that most Americans would be furious.
Who knows? Someone might even get angry enough to hire the North Koreans to hack DNC's computers!

One guess/supposition I have about the NPS not commenting yet on this is Don Neubacher, the Yosemite superintendent, was previously at Point Reyes and thus in the center of the Drakes Bay Oyster farm mess. I think one of the lessons Neubacher learned from that was it's better to avoid publicly commenting on ridiculous claims until a definite decision has been made.

Completely agree and I am hopeful this will mean the end of DNC in Yosemite and even SEKI.
However, I don’t want anyone hacking the DNC’s computers, at least not before February 2, since we booked our annual winter full-moon visit.

Funny enough--I got an email from DNC over the past couple of days about their services.
Here's the answer I sent them:
Your position in regards to Yosemite National Park and the legendary names that are attached to it is the worst kind of corporate greed. There are things more important than money, although your management may not understand that. But I will promise you that whether or not you win your lawsuit, the damage you have done to your image will last a long time. I won’t forget. And I won’t participate in anything that has to do with Delaware North, ever.
That may be a small amount of money. I hope to encourage many more people to do the same—maybe enough to have a negative impact on your operations to the tune of $51Million. If so, you will have not only lost your corporate ethics and integrity, you will have also lost what is clearly most important to you: money.
