Lost Dog Oct. 24 in High Sierra - Any Help At all Please

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Lost Dog Oct. 24 in High Sierra - Any Help At all Please

Post by Monk »

New member here and so glad to find this website.
My husband took our dog camping last week up around Florence Lake, Mono Hot Springs area and tuesday morning our dog, (barely a year old) split. They were above the fore bay about a mile from Mono Hot Springs. He hiked and looked for her til thurs. when he had to come home. She's a black Lab/pit cross with a white chest and white socks and looks like a Lab. She's wearing a collar w/ tags. Her name is Maryjane and I know she's got to be flipped out.
So hopefully spreading the word here will only help. Good to see that my husband isn't the only crazy person heading up there this time of year. Any suggestions on more ways to get the word out will be accepted gladly. Thanks for taking time to read this everyone.

I am so very sorry to read this! Have you put up posters all around? I would go back to where your husband last saw her and I would set up a camp, and hike the area looking for her..leaving things with his scent on it at the camp. Yes for sure the forest service you should let them know.
Also contact the nearest Animal shelter in the area..in case someone finds her and takes her to the shelter, and all the local Veterinarian offices
If I think of anything else I will post
Im so very sorry..I can just imagine what you are feeling

Sorry to read about the lost pooch.

Be sure to post the same message over at SummitPost.org too (and include some contact info for yourself).

Sure hope she shows up okay.

Monk,

Contact Mongola Leoni at the Mono Hotsprings Resort.

He's a good friend of mine, so please tell him Eric O. sent you. He's a good young man, and will more than likely be willing to help. Ask him to pass the word on to his co-workers and others in the area. Hope this helps...

Thank you all so much for your imput. I have spoken with a gentleman @Mono Hot Springs already and gave him all the info. And I emailed the forestry service as well. I'll call today. Thank you for the other web site as well. I'd love to run up there and search myself, but we're in Manteca! What would be the local animal shelter to call up there? Again, thank you for everyones imput.
