I found a GPS in the Mountains. If anyone lost one and can prove to me
that it is theirs, I will be happy to return it. Just provide the following information: Make and Model and where and when you lost it.

You might look into it's menus and try to find if there's an "owner's information" page that might hold the owner's phone number. My eTrex Legend displays my name and address when it's first booting up.

tomcat's friend found a waypoint that said "home". It took him to the owner's house. :)

I tried that-no luck. I called the manufacturer and the owner didn't send
in the warranty registration card either. So, I am using postings to try to
locate the owner. Thanks for your feedback.

I lost my 4th GPSr on the Laurel Lakes Rd in Mammoth back in July. It's an brown/grey etrex Summit.

I found the waypoints, but nothing marked home. The only thing close
to that is that several waypoints start or end at San Diego/Rancho Bernardo and I only have a latitude and longitude.

To Ranboze, I'm sorry but this isn't that model.

How are the waypoints named? Are they:
1) numbered eg, 001, 002
2) do they all start with a GC, eg GCXY12 (these are geocaching waypoints)
3) do they appear to be abbreviations?, eg, DESRT, PEAKAB, GOLER (these are smart names for geocaches)

The reason I ask, is that if they are geocaching waypoints, I could post something on the San Diego geocaching forums.

Hello Ranboze

They are simply labeled 001, 002, 003 etc. You could post something there anyway. It can't hurt.

you might also look to see if it has a saved track - those are usually dated. also you could see if any waypoints correspond to a peak - you know how vein peakbaggers can be about signing registers :D
