The Station Fire -- two years later

In the summer of 2009, fire burned for what seemed like forever, scorching most of the San Gabriel mountains northeast of L.A., and taking the life of two fire fighters. The PCT goes through here (part of it is still closed, for reasons not apparent to me). Just off the trail is/was Gleason Conservation Camp, which made for a fascinating if disturbing detour. Given how dry this winter is shaping up to be, we could be dealing with more fires soon. I hiked through this area in mid-December and there was up to a foot of snow in places (at only 6,000 feet). I went again this last weekend and the snow was almost all gone.

I posted some additional photos on Facebook.
