Here are some pix from a climb I did a little while ago. We hiked up the Cascade Pass trail and then continued up Sahale Arm to the base of the Glacier. We did this as a day hike and it was a long one, as we got started at the butt crack of dawn. Here is a shot of Johannesburg from the Cascade Pass Trail.
This is the view of the summit from the arm trail
Views of Eldorado Peak from the Sahale Arm trail
Mount Forbidden and Mount Torment and the Boston Basin
We did this climb about this time of year during a classic Pacific Northwest Indian Summer
Getting closer to the Sahale Glacier...
The summit horn
Looking out from the glacier towards Glacier Peak...nothing but rock and ice
I'm getting ready to climb the summit block
My climbing bud Matt...like a monkey on a chain...
I'm sittin' on top of the world...
People ask"Why do you climb?" Here is why...
The support team on the way down...
What a great trip to one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the world. If you are ever in Washington take the Cascade Pass trail to the Sahale Arm trail, the views from high on the arm are spectacular. It's a nice day hike, 12 miles round trip with about 4000' elevation gain...add another 1000 feet to get to the summit...some seriously exposed class 4, maybe one low class 5 section of climbing and minor glacier travel involved...it's an airy summit!
