Channel Islands

Post by doug395 »

I’m planning to go to Anacapa Island in the Channel Islands weekend of
Feb 4. The boat leaves out of Oxnard, 54 bucks for the boat, 15 bucks for a campsite. If anyone is interested in going feel free to ask any questions. Here’s some images from my last trip out there.

I'd love to go on this one, what an incredible place! But with a preggers wife due later that month, I'm pushing it to take my Tehipite trip as it is. You'll have a great time! Your shots from there last time are incredible.

Hay Buck, you’ll make a great dad, plus I think you get fathers day off or somthing. I love getting out to those Islands during early season when it’s green and uncrowned. My first trip to Santa Cruz I had the island to my self under a full moon. Anacapa is a small Island, but lots of great things to see through the viewfinder.

The fog lifted Saturday morning and I was able to make my trip to Anacapa. Things are a bit dry from lack of rain, the Coreopsis are greening up and should have flowers in a few weeks. We had clouds move in at sunset and sunrise, cleared up during the day, perfect for watching the Pelicans ride the wind off the cliffs. There were 2 other groups camping and we sort of got evacuated off the island early on Sunday because of high surf. That turned into a good thing, Island Packers took us over to Santa Cruz Island to look for killer whales and we found a frisky group of them. They put on quit a show for us, one of them kept swimming under the boat upside down. This was my first trip with my 20D, still have lots to figure out, but here are some trip pictures, some may look better on the larger view.

WOW!! You saw Orcas! Very cool! I've only seen them up in the San Juans in WA state. Looks like you had a great trip. :)

Seeing the Orca’s was a special encounter. I went back to Anacapa for the full moon a few weeks ago, very cool hiking around the island with everything lit up by the moon. The sea gulls were out in force at night and I thought there was little critters running around, but it was the shadows of the sea gulls out for a full moon cruise.

Sunset and Moonset from the point:
