Inyo Mine and Schwaub Peak dayclimb and fossils
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/61 ... 3285_rdpoh
I followed Tom Gossett up Echo Canyon, with stops at "Eye of the Needle" and Inyo Mine. We parked at the road end, dayclimbed Schwaub Peak, and found some really cool fossils along the way. It was a hot day, but the Misty Mate kept us cool! Beautiful day on a beautiful mountain!

Inyo Mine
Followed a ridge around to the summit of Schwaub Pk (other side of TomG)
Found a lot of ammonites as we climbed over the dark bump
this looks like a small fish, but these are crinoid (stem lilies)
A little bit of fun climbing
This is a ammonite
Horn Coral
Trilobite Head Shield
spectacular sunset!
edit: thanks to csufgeo for IDing the fossils!

The fossil you are not sure of looks like a sea urchin belly.

thanks Ridgeline! I also got some ID on the other fossils from someone on another board! I'll make those changes!

Sierra Sparkles and I met up with Astrohound on a dirt road in NV. On the way to the start of Stirling Pk, we were treated to wild horses that walked up to us and didn't mind being petted. Mt Stirling is a short but steep hike that has petroglyphs near the summit. Great day to be in the mountains! Added another DPS peak to my list!

Saw more horses up the road
Very friendly guys

Nopah Range BM in Death Valley
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/61 ... yBo#P-1-15
Nopah Peak was a steep climb with 4,200' el gain. I've been wanting to do this one for awhile now. Awesome climb! and the bonus was the 3 rams we saw on the way back. Astrohound was ahead and saw one before we got there, so 4 rams for him. AWESOME!
Steep but not class 3
Jay said it was class 3 up there so I dropped down to the left and found a sheep trail (photo by Sierra Sparkles)
Beautiful animals!
We watched them for 1/2 hr
We took a different route down not mentioned in any references we saw and it was nice!
