Met up with Bob Rockwell and the OPGs. Started off with an
'interesting' drive to the trailhead, ending with a few 3' drops near the end of the road. Climbed over Peak 4938, Slate Benchmark (5049'), and on to Searles Peak (5093'). Then we reversed our track, so got in five summits. El gain was 2,900' in 6 mi

Bob Rockwell hikes with a group called the OPGs, Occasional Peaks Gang. If they're over a certain age (60 or 65, I forget), they add GS for Geriatric Section. So in a lot of desert peak registers, you'll see a name, followed by OPG, and sometimes OPG GS. A few years back they were "OPG II", but dropped the "II", as shown in one of the registers.

Ohhh, so that's what the views are like from Searles. Looked quite a bit different from the first hike up there. Those ridge-top sand dunes sure are cool, and a bit bizarre! They definitely looked misplaced. Nice views of Manly Peak and Goler Canyon. Thanks!
