Seiad Valley Store and Cafe

Anyone ever been there, or know of it? Not me. It's in Seiad Valley, CA - near the Oregon border. I just saw it featured on a show broadcast by the Travel Channel. Apparently, they offer one of the biggest plates of pancakes you've ever seen in your life; mostly to transient backpackers passing through on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). They challenge anyone to finish their plate! Pretty funny, actually...the piece focused on the massive amount of food as some sort of 'sick joke', considering the tight rations a good number of the cafe's cliental survive on throughout their long treks! Anyway, thought the story was pretty cool. Here's the cafe's link:

I believe I drove through there en route and back from a trip in the Klamaths many years ago. Whether or not that cafe was there is something I would have liked to find out about, given that finding good breakfast joints near the mountains is a major quest of mine.

I do remember one epic breakfast place in NW Calif (much further south, though). It was in Hayfork, CA (this is actually south of 299). It's been over 25 years ago, but I think the name was Irene's or something like that. I recall that the standard "stack" was two rather than three pancakes, and that it took a mighty appetite to finish them (even though they were very good). The legendary Morning Thunder Cafe of Quincy also has an obscenely large stack of two that overhangs the plate. You have to dig a crater in the top to hold the syrup.
