Great pictures, bringing back memories when I lived in SoCal. My friend had a place right by Peg Leg Smith's monument. It is stunning when the Ocitillos are in full bloom in April.

Wow - what a nice hike.

I love the Santa Rosas. Rosa Point was one of my favorite hikes in the Santa Rosas. I thought about Mile High Peak on the hike to Rosa and the hikes to Villager and Rabbit, but didn't make the traverse - just too much for me to do on those hikes. I'm going to go give it a try eventually.

I've only been to Anza Borrego a few times, so this is a cool new area for me! I've got a bunch of peaks picked out to do now!

We didn't want to go down the way we came up (Route B of DPS Guide), it was pretty gnarly. So even though we had to descend to a lower saddle, and pick up more elevation, we knew the ridge would be easier to go down. Plus we got another terracache!

Coyote Mountain and another terracache

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/2526079#132725238

After Saturday's trifecta, I wasn't sure if I could hike Coyote Mountain (4 miles/2,650'). The ascent wasn't bad and I didn't slow us down too much. Astrohound found the terracache, and we signed the register of a second lower summit. Descending killed my knees, and I dropped way back. Total for the weekend was 19.2 miles, 8,950' el gain/loss, 4 peaks and 3 terracaches! It was still early, so I drove to Calcite Mine with Trailtrekker and SDsierrahiker before leaving Anza Borrego. Great weekend!

Astrohound sent me the profile of our hike on Saturday, and it was 6,700' el gain (not 6,300' like I guessed). Profile is posted at the end of the photo. So the numbers are:

15.2 mi, 6,700' gain for Marble Pk, Rosa Pt, Mile High Pk and two terracaches

4 mi, 2650' gain for Coyote Mtn and one terracache

= 19.2 mi, 9,350' el gain for 4 peaks, 3 terracaches in 2 days. :retard:
