Death Valley - Pyramid Peak

Post by Mtflyer »

Last Saturday hiked up to Pyramid in Death Valley with Sooz, Cori and Norma. The hike was a 11.2 mile round trip with a 3,700 foot gain. Photos at http://joeidoni.smugmug.com/gallery/2495373

Wow! Nice fossils! That must have been over the last saddle? This was a fun peak, and was easier this time than when I did it in 2003. I would do this one again, Tom.

Eagle Mountain #2 (didn't make it)

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/2489166#131137954

We got a late start, and went up the wrong chute. Ended up all over trying to get to the right chute. After 3 hrs we stopped for food and decided to save this for another day. This should have been 3 hrs round trip, and we didn't want to hike out in the dark. A few steps from where we had lunch, we saw cairns going up. It was a good workout and a long drive home. We will avoid hwy 15 next time.

Pyramid Peak

Post by tomcat_rc »

Saturday Feb 24, 2007

Bob H., Bill S. and I decided to drive over and hike Pyramid. First week that I have not hiked in the Panamints this month. Looking at the Panamints from the east side - they got some new snow - although it did pull back some by afternoon.

The hike for Pyramid was good with awesome views and no problems with route finding - I would rate this hike as a "must do" for death valley hikes. all 3 of us made summit and the cold beer waiting for us back at the car was smooth.
