Corkscrew Peak with the OPGs

Post by Snow Nymph »

Corkscrew Peak on Sunday 11/20: http://community.webshots.com/album/509606294qIinGd

I got up at 6:15am without the alarm clock and took my time getting ready before driving out to the road at 8am. I pulled over and counted 25 quail running across the road. I kept myself busy while waiting for BobR's group to arrive. At 9am two vehicles pulled up, and 8 people got out. One of them was tomcat_rc, whose name I've seen all over the internet and in registers. Then Tom S told me that BobR's son was in town, so he wouldn't be able to make it.

We started off at 9:20am, took two 10 min breaks along the way, and arrived at Corkscrew Peak by 12:10pm. On the way up we saw a flock of ~25 quail, and a tarantula. We spent 40 minutes on the summit taking photos, eating, and reading the register entries. Some items from two years ago were missing (a corkscrew and a plastic box). We saw BobR's entry 3 times when the book was laid open with two pages showing. Bob H decided to head back down one way, and the rest of us followed Tom S. Bob H was waiting for us at the cars as we arrived 1.5 hrs after leaving the summit. Total time was 5 hrs 10 min, 7 miles with 3300' gain.
