China's Yangtze River - September 2006

Post by ERIC »

Sorry this took so long to post (Snowy... ). I took over 1200 photos on the trip...so it was a lot to sort through!

I have a whole mess of good shots taken at the Xihai Gorge that I still need to go through. I'm definitely going back there someday; one of the most beautiful, and majestic places I've ever been.

Sunsets are BEAUUUUUTIFUL on the Yangtze

See...here's another one. The evil eye is upon you...

Local fishermen and merchants at one of our stops

I caught one of the chefs from our ship sneaking in a game of Mahjong before leaving port. Classic!

Taxi!

This gentleman was collecting plastic bottles to redeem for cash. It's very common for these people to come up and ask for your water bottle before you're even finished with it. :)

Trash pick-up.

Corrugated board recycling.

"Hey baby...wanna ride on my hog?"
These were all over the place in rural farming communities. As you can probably guess, they can be a very useful machine for a family farmer in China.

The entrance to Xihai Gorge in Huangshan Geopark. Placing a lock on the fence is rumored to bring a lifetime of good luck and happiness.

My wife, Megan, on the trail in Xihai Gorge, taking in the scenery.

The trail was very, very, very steep. It was a good thing we had these artificial wood railings to keep us on the path!

"Wow; what a view..."

My wannabe Windwalker shot! :retard:

Another great sunset...

Are you starting to see the theme here? Air pollution equals GREAT sunsets! :unibrow:

Entering one of the many locks of the Three Gorges Dam.

Aaaaaaand AWAY WE GO!

I never did get tired of the views.

Hey, I have an idea... Let's push and tug a bunch of fat Americans UPSTREAM in 6-inch deep water using only the muscle of our backs!
Image

Better yet...why don't we let the youngsters do it!
Image

Watermelon anyone?
Image

Ok, not a sunset. This time I actually got up to see the sunrise...

I agree! Great sunsets too! That board recycling . . . makes my neck hurt! Love the wannabe shot of the frog under the thorns! Nice! Looking forward to more! Another friend went to China recently, but I haven't had a chance to look thru his albums.

Thanks!

Nahhh... Never been much for superstition. But it was pretty cool anyway... Apparently, there was an episode of "The Amazing Race" filmed there either this season or last. Apparently, contestants were given a key and had to find which lock the key fit....or something like that.
