Found this interesting feature on the Lost Coast following the current BLM ranger patrolling the area that also has useful links at bottom.

Thanks for posting this interesting article Dave, was unaware that LC has become so
popular, "By the end of the first day, Sever has made contact with 100 trail users."

The Lost Coast is more than that northern 25 miles. It continues to intersect Hwy 1 just as it turns inland, north of Rockport. The southern part is actually much more difficult. In my book you have not done the "Lost Coast" until you do the entire route (60 miles). The southern part is not crowded.

I did the entire route years ago and have been thinking of doing it again. Transportation is a logistical problem. Anyway, starting about May 20 tides are right for the trip for about a week. Only the first 2-3 days are tide dependent. It takes about 6 days to go north-to-south, including walking up the road from Shelter Cove to the FS campgrounds on the crest. It is 54 miles from the start to Usel Campground and another 6 miles if you walk out to Hwy 1. It usually takes a 4wd to get to Usel Campground. Keeping my eye on the weather. Last time it rained a lot (more than 4 inches one night) and I would like to do it with a bit more sunshine. As soon as it gets hot in the valley, fog rolls in and no point in walking in the fog.
