Mok River boating, 2013

Post by mokelumnekid »

Well folks the 2013 boating season is underway, here is a clip of some dudes (not my work) doing the 'Fantasy Falls' run on the Mokelumne which goes from Hwy 4 to Salt Springs Res. One of the premier *hard* wilderness kayak runs in California if not the country, it goes down one of the least traveled canyons in the range. (Warning- the video has the usual bull crap misogynistic hip hop idiocy that seems to come with the territory). Video here:

Fun looking ride. Where will you be dipping you kayak MK this year?

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks for the interest guys. For me, I'll be running the Main Salmon in early July from Corn Ck. to Carey Ck., 82 miles of the 'River of No Return,' then in Sept. doing a 15 day trip down the Grand Canyon. Both trips are raft supported, and the Grand trip is with an outfitter who specializes in kayak trips, so it will be a group. Not cheap but a bucket list thing.

The Mok 'Fantasy Falls' trip starts in Hermit Valley, where Hwy 4 crosses the N. Fk. Mokelumne. That is a very advanced run. For example the Grand Canyon, while it has large waves, is not nearly as hard or dangerous as the Mokelumne River. NO way I would ever in this life run the Mokelumne in fact only a handful of kayakers have the skill to do it. I'm a weekend warrior!
