Kayaking the MF of Kings

Post by copeg »

I was doing a bit of internet research (as I always do this time of year ;) ) and stumbled across the following photos from a group that Kayaked the Middle Fork of the Kings. In over Bishop Pass by foot, out at 'Garnet Dike' on the west. Couldn't believe some of those rapids these folks were 'surfing'.

Very cool TB! I have seen some shows of extreme kayakers like these guys before on
TV.
Sure would get you to your destination a lot faster, and you would get whole different
view that not many people get to chance to see.

Is there a good kayak website? I recently purchased a kayak and have had a blast with it on the lake. Are there any websites I could find safety information, a forum. tips/tricks and maps of local streams with hazards highlighted?

Hi there,

I'm not really familiar with the sport, but I found the following links via Google search:

http://www.kayakforum.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.mountainbuzz.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.paddling.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.kayakmagazine.com/board/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Good luck!

I don't know how popular of a sport this is, but I saw a group of guys porting kayaks up to Bishop Pass last July and marveled at their drive. Sure made me think twice before next complaining about the weight of my backpacking pack.

All my kayaking friends use paddling.net. Go to the community bar at the top of the page, then message boards for discussion topics, etc. Another one that looks interesting is whitewater.com
