Video TR from an ice skate trip to Evolution this November

Post by John Dittli »

Finally a rainy day and time to put this video together. Not much snow over Lamarck Col last week, but pretty nice ice on the lakes.

Hope you enjoy the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoimVpRH ... e=youtu.be" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Very nice! What a nice job setting up the shots with the sunset colors. I especially enjoyed the pull back shots with the skater not in the foreground. Really well done.

A truly amazing video. My friend in Minnesota, whose farm abuts the Red River, skates the Red River for miles and miles, maybe +/- a 100 miles. And he and I have been through Evolution Valley together twice. We've done the John Muir Trial (we've started at Horseshoe Mdw and finished at Sonora Pass both times) together twice.

Since my retirement, although I now work for a Hydrologist on-call (like last night), it seems hard to plan and execute back country trips. But this video has given me inspiration. Wonderful art.

Some of the most amazing outdoor footage that I have ever seen! Absolutely beautiful! Looks like fun! I love the panoramas and straight down shots of the lake below the ice.

How do you know if the ice is thick enough on the other side of the lake from where you start, or in the middle for that matter (I saw the rock throwing, but that only tells you right where you are trying to enter)? This is a question from someone raised in Southern CA that has ice skated twice (around Christmas time at a mall). :o
