TRUCKEE, Calif.—A snowshoer who wandered off from his group in the Sierra Nevada is safe after spending two days in blizzard conditions near Castle Peak at Donner Summit.

Nevada County sheriff's officials say 28-year-old Kevin Bradstreet Davis was discovered Thursday afternoon by the Air National Guard waving a blanket near a snow cave.

He was tired, hungry and showed some signs of hypothermia, but was otherwise in good condition. He was airlifted to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee.

Diana Todd, a friend of Davis's, says she alerted authorities that he was missing Tuesday after seeing his tracks in the snow and realizing he was headed toward treacherous terrain.

Dozens of rescue team members were dispatched as part of the search effort.

I've been to Peter Grubb a few times and skiied east to Truckee. It's not that bad an area if you prepare and know what your in for. First time we went there, we didn't know the hut was there :(
On our way back, we discovered the hut and found the two story out-house. Peter was smart.

Great place to stay btw, for a mid winter ski trip. Lots of places to test out your telemark skills.
