RENO, Nev. — Northern Nevadans enjoying the long Nevada Day weekend can hit the links or hit the slopes, thanks to cold overnight temperatures that made for good snowmaking conditions in the Sierra.

Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe southwest of Reno opened one lift and one run on Friday, and will be open during the three-day weekend. A spokesman says operators will evaluate conditions before deciding whether to open again next weekend.

Boreal Mountain Resort on Donner Summit west of Reno re-opened on Friday and plans to remain open for the season.

In the valleys of western Nevada, cold temperatures earlier in the week were replaced by high pressure and sunshine, making for mild conditions and perfect fall weather for Nevada Day celebrations in Carson City, or other outdoor activities.
