Ski conditions just continue to get better in North Lake Tahoe. Last week's storms dropped another three feet of snow at Sierra Nevada resorts, which are reporting crystal blue days with superb packed powder and machine groomed conditions.

* Alpine Meadows is 100 percent open with a summit snow depth of 145 inches.

* Diamond Peak is also 100 percent open, with a 141-inch base at the top.

* Homewood Mountain Resort is 100 percent open with a 149-inch summit snow depth.

* Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe has base depths of 84-132 inches, has all lifts running with the Chutes open.

* Northstar-at-Tahoe has 15 lifts running with 73 trails open and a 105-inch depth at the top.

* Squaw Valley has 28 lifts running with a 142-inch summit base and night skiing until 9 p.m.

* Sugar Bowl has ten lifts and 81 runs open with a 106-inch summit snow depth.

SnowBomb's Sick and Twisted Big Air Festival hits the slopes of Homewood February 5.

Last Tracks at Diamond Peak begins February 18. The Saturday afternoon events include wine tasting and appetizers at Snowflake Lodge. Guests then ski or snowboard down a freshly groomed trail.

The 25th Annual North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival is March 3-12. The "Mountain Mardi Gras" celebration includes a fireworks and torchlight parade, polar bear swim, Monster Dawg Pull, snow sculpture contest, parades and specials, parties and contests at North Tahoe restaurants, pubs and ski areas.

North Lake Tahoe is a 45-minute drive from Reno Tahoe International Airport, two-hour drive from Sacramento International Airport and just over three hours from San Francisco International Airport. For lodging reservations, contact the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association's Lake Tahoe Central Reservations department, the area's largest reservation center, at 1-800-824-6348 or visit http://www.PureTahoeNorth.com.

I skied Kirkwood after the Wednesday storm. Sleeping in my Subu overnight, much of the snow came down after 10pm when temps were in low teens. However there were uncommon high winds from the east Sunday and Monday that wrecked the slopes turning all higher exposed areas into large sastrugi and hammering the groomed runs into hard pack.
