Reno, NV -- A wet and windy storm is headed for the Sierra and northern Nevada.

It has prompted a winter storm watch for the Tahoe Basin starting late tonight and continuing tomorrow.

The western valleys will be under a high wind watch all day tomorrow. Any precipitation today will fall as rain except at the highest mountain elevations above 8000 feet.

The snow level will gradually drop to lake level tomorrow with sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles an hour and gusts to 55.

In the valleys, the snow level will gradually fall to about 5000 feet by tomorrow night, accompanied by winds of 20 to 35 miles an hour gusting to 55.

To the east, winds today and tomorrow won't be as strong, but there is a chance of a little snow mixed in with the rain.
