snow shoeing

this last Saturday I took a break in between storms to get out and try the new camera. Wish I had gotten out earlier as I missed some of the best views as the clouds slowly socked back in. Decided with all the new and unstable snow to stick to a "road" hike which would be relatively danger free. Parked at the road closed sign on the Portals road and shoed up to the Portals for a nice lunch. Ran into a overnight camper and then Doug F. He and I hiked down together and then grabbed a late lunch(or ealry dinner) before driving home.

Yes, very nice! Makes me almost want to break out the snowshoes and brave the cold...

more snow on the Sierras - looks like plenty more opportunity to enjoy some snow this season. Looking for an awesome spring season.

Hello, good to have Topix back. I got a chance to visit Yosemite valley this week 02/05 to enjoy the good snowfall. Thought I would need snowshoes to get around, but the major footpaths were packed down from lots of pedestrian traffic; didn't have to break trail until I headed up the Snow Creek trail for a short distance, then return via east side of Tenaya Creek/Mirror Lake. Great day, plenty of sun, snow-covered trees, booming ice falls, late afternoon clouds. Here are some tourist shots:
