Curling Championship 2017

Post by rlown »

Anyone else watching the Curling worlds? I watched the Womens, and the mixed doubles and in the Men's world, USA is playing China right now on UniHD. Probably better played than watched, but still interesting from the strategy point of view. You can move this if to the forum of choice.

Russ you have way too much time on your hands!

Who can't do everything he used to and what he can do takes a hell of a lot longer!

Haven't played. The only thing I've done on ice is fish or play broom ball. Besides, I don't have the stones to curl. ;)

I think our local rink in Santa Rosa does Curl seasonally. I'll have to look into it. Also, I recorded "Men with Brooms". A fun jaunt in curling.

Men with Brooms. Hadn't heard of that one, and curiously, neither had my Canadian wife. We'll definitely look that one up!

It's fun. As a naive born and raised Californian it was a prime source of culture tease enjoyment when I first met my wife. But after I got a chance to give it a go in a real curling setting, I was shamelessly hooked. It's like bowling, but more of a team sport with a higher requirement for physical ability. Cold rink. Cool, cerebral people. Lots of beer and banter. My kind of indoor past time.

John was pretty cool throughout the whole mens world. Calling out the shots and working with his crew. Bummer they got a bit behind.

Their demeanor was prototypical beer league. Nice guys and good players, but when you compare that with the focus of the teams that advanced, not the same. Nice mustaches, tho. ;)
