Another kinda late to post pics trip! Seven of us started at Carson Pass with snowshoes on..hiked up to Beautiful frozen Winnemucca Lake..Had lunch on a nice big dry boulder. Hiked out along the base of Elephants Back went over to the edge to look over into the Ebbetts Pass area & hiked back down by Frog Lake.

Winnemucca Lake can be really windy..but not this time, it was an awesome sunny and almost down right hot day! There is snow up there, but not that much, a lot of bare ground showing. Beautiful day.

For anyone interested in the pictures I took to see the snow pack

Thanks for the pics. Good to see some snow, I haven't seen any snow for weeks now as it has all melted here. But then we didn't have that much to begin with.

Pick up any 2 buck Chuck at Trader Joe's? :)

Nice report and photos. I was at the same area a week later, 01/30/07. The day was sunny, but cool with a breeze. Frog and Winnemucca lakes were solidly frozen. Got as far as the west shoulder of Round Top before I chilled out. Views to the south were wintery; to the north a lot of bare ground. South from the shoulder of Round Top, Deadwood Peak nearest.

Beautiful picture Will!
Thank you for posting it....You got quite a bit further than we did..thats great. I was very tempted to do Elephants Back..but could not get anyone to go up there with me & I rode with soemone..so I had no choice not to go up there. :crybaby:

A lot of bare ground up there..im sure this last storm helped some.
It's a beautiful and very special place for sure :)

How come? I know you know wine, but you have to admit the quality is actually a bit better than the $2 sticker suggests (although, I would agree it's still not 'excellent' in quality). TJ's intentionally absorbs a loss from sales of that wine in an attempt to lure people in to purchase items with high mark-ups. Marketed differently, that same wine could easily be sold for $5-$10 (and I've actually seen it in fine restaurants @ $15/btl).

Just a chuckle!

Sorry, don't mean to come across as a cork dork. :retard:

Actually, Fred Franzia is a friend of mine and the Shaw program has done a world of good for the whine industry by reaching a new market and depleting a bulk wine glut. I've sold excess inventory to him.

On another note, when I worked graveyard shift at Angelo Papagni while attending classes at Fresno State, we used to grab a bottle of Montevina Old Vine Zinfandel for $1.99 from Dominic's on Blackstone after work and take it up to Pine Flat or Rettinger. Great times for hiking, fishing and good, cheap wine back in the '70's.
