Forum Changes

Instead of emailing or messaging the Admins or Mods with technical support questions or comments about the site, we prefer you check here to see if someone else has had the same difficulty or has made the same suggestion. What you're after might have already been posted and addressed here or within the FAQ. If not, please post a detailed description of the problem/suggestion and someone from the HST team will address your needs shortly. If you can't login/post and are unable to reset your password on your own, you may contact us directly.

Very clean and feels updated, IMO. As you stated it may change, but whatever happens I am sure it will be great as a whole. Oh I do like how the "Post A Reply" page is a light shade of grey and white. Breaks up the "too bright" feel and is easier on the eyes. Not sure if that was intended, but just wanted to mention that. Thought it may be helpful. :)

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the results =D>

Eric, I doubt the increased spammer signups are related to the software upgrade. WhitneyZone was getting a slew of spam signups, often 4 a day. They were easy to spot as the name always included a sequential string of letters from the alphabet. They started up sometime last year, and have just recently stopped (knock on wood). They almost never posted as soon as they signed up, but if left a few days, would then return and post some advertising spam. With the usual pattern of characters, I thought it was a robot signing up, but other admins felt it was some person making pennies for his efforts.

UBB Threads has incorporated a Stop Forum Spam link, http://www.stopforumspam.com/, and I always reported the spammers via a quick mouse click. (Maybe that has convinced the spammers to stop.)

It looks like phpBB also has some tools to use them, too. Good luck!

Thanks, Steve. Actually, I wasn't blaming the software update so much as my use of an old template in combination with the new software upgrade which is basically a no-no anyway. Literally the minute I changed to the new template and initiated the new CAPTCHA the problem went away.

The problem with the spammers is 90% or more of those registrations are coming from automated bots, not manually from real people. It's a cat and mouse game that will not end anytime soon. Luckily, we have an Admin/Mod team of highly trained and dedicated spam snipers. We even have markskor embedded in their timezone. :snipe:

I for one hope we lose the whiteout soon: it's hard on the eyes. Especially in a darkened room.

My favorite forum.....look forward to a softer tone as I agree with some of the others. A bit hard on the eyes.
