SAR Upper Gaylor Lake 7/7

Post by maverick »

Yubanet:

Yosemite, Calif. July 11, 2016 - On July 7, 2016 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR) requested that California Highway Patrol Helicopter 24 (H-24) assist them with an extraction at Upper Gaylor Lake of an individual with a severe lower leg injury. H-24 took off from Auburn Municipal Airport and flew to coordinates provided by YOSAR.

They arrived at Upper Gaylor Lake 45 minutes later and found a suitable landing zone (LZ). YOSAR had prepared the victim for transport and carried him to the helicopter.

Flight Officer/Paramedic Calcutt secured him in the helicopter and pilot Officer Monty Emery lifted off and flew him to a pre-designated LZ where he was handed off to ground transport for medical treatment.

The victim is a tourist from Portugal that came to California to hike Yosemite. Unfortunately, his hike was cut short by his injury.

Luckily, the YOSAR team and crew from H-24 were able to assist him to medical care so he may continue his visit to California.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
